The Power of a Hospital Visit: Reaching out to Announce the Good News of Jesus

Recently I got a copy of a letter written to one of our priests in the Archdiocese.  It described how powerfully a small act of reaching out can lead to great effects in the lives of others. This priest was praised for a hospital visit in 2003 and the fruits that came from it.  Each time I read the letter, a tear comes to my eye as the story is retold. Here are some major excerpts from this letter:

Hope in the Lord — The Immaculate Conception, the protection of human dignity

'The_Madonna_and_Child',_Giovanni_BelliniThis Dec. 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, marked my 15th anniversary as a bishop.

I love that I was ordained for service to Christ and his people on this special feast of the Blessed Mother.

Some confuse the Immaculate Conception with the conception of Jesus, which we celebrate on March 25, the Annunciation of our Lord. St. Anne and St. Joachim (parents of Mary, the Mother of Jesus) are likely kicking […]

Evangelization: Christ Draws Us to Himself

I just finished reading the book, Something Other Than God: How I Passionately Sought Happiness and Accidentally Found It by Jennifer Fulwiler.  Her title is taken from a quote from C.S. Lewis: “All that we call human history … (is) the long, terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”

FulwilerBookIn a light-hearted and carefree, often humorous, style that captivates and makes you want […]

Interview with CTV Scranton

I wrote in an earlier blog (October 29) about my visit to the University of Scranton to give the keynote address for the 13th annual Northeastern U.S. Conference on DisABILITY.  While there, I talked to Daniel Gallagher of Catholic Television of the Diocese of Scranton (CTV) about my keynote address and about my participation in the Synod on the Family in Rome. Here is that interview:

Faithfully Living the Gospel: Let’s Walk Together

Below is my presidential address, delivered on November 10, for the November Assembly of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops:
