STATEMENT

I join with Bishop William F. Medley of the Diocese of Owensboro in offering prayers for the two young people who were killed and the 17 injured in the tragic shooting yesterday at Marshall County High School. I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and their friends, teachers and staff as well as the first responders and the whole community of Benton.

As we mourn with the Benton community, we again raise our voices in prayers for an end to violence.  Every act of violence affects us all as children of God and assaults our quest for the common good in our Commonwealth.

We know that God’s love overcomes all evil.  May the souls of the departed rest in peace and may God’s merciful love sustain the victims and those who love and support them as they heal from the physical and emotional wounds of this senseless act of violence.

Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D.
