Statement

Reverend James R. Schook, a priest of the Archdiocese, died on Saturday, December 8, 2018. Ordained a priest in 1975, Father Schook was 71 years old at the time of his death.

In 2009, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz put Father Schook, then pastor of Saint Ignatius Martyr Parish in Louisville, on a leave of absence after the Archdiocese received a report that Father Schook had abused a minor in the 1980s.  The Archdiocese also reported this accusation to the police. A […]

Catholic High School Placement Test – December 8, 2018

Students in grade 8 who wish to attend a Catholic high school next year are required to take the Catholic high school placement test scheduled on Saturday, December 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

Students take the test at the Catholic high school they plan to attend, and students should bring two #2 pencils. The test is free of charge. Information about the location of Catholic high schools can be found at www.louisvillecatholicschools.com.

Following the apostolic visitation of June 2018 to the Diocese of Memphis and its Bishop, called for by the Holy Father, and after several efforts to restore peace and serenity within the same Particular Church, today his Holiness Pope Francis has relieved of his responsibilities as Ordinary the Most Reverend Martin D. Holley. Pope Francis has appointed as Apostolic Administrator His Excellency, the Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, Metropolitan Archbishop of Louisville.

Catholic Schools Begin 2018-2019 Academic Year

August 3, 2018 (Louisville, Ky.) –Jefferson County Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville will begin the first official day of instruction on August 15, 2018. Although this is the first “official” day of school, some Catholic schools choose to begin on a day other than August 15. Catholic Elementary Teachers Gather for Opening School Rally

Archdiocese of Louisville and LG&E make history with new solar array

Array is first of its kind for the region; marks utility’s first Business Solar project

May 30, 2018 (LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – The Archdiocese of Louisville and Louisville Gas and Electric Company are partnering to operate the first diocesan-based solar array in the greater Kentucky region. The array, which is located at the Archdiocese’s Pastoral Center and headquarters at 3940 Poplar Level Rd., also marks the inaugural Business Solar project for LG&E and its sister utility, Kentucky Utilities Company.
