September 20, 2023 (Louisville, Ky.) – The United States Department of Education has announced that St. Xavier High School has been recognized as a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School by U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona. St. Xavier, located at 1609 Popular Level Road, is a five-time recipient of this award. It was the first school recognized in the Archdiocese of Louisville and has received the award in 1984, 1989, 1993, 2016 and 2023.

St. Xavier is one of seven schools in Kentucky to be recognized this year and the only school in Jefferson County to receive this designation. This year the U.S. Department of Education recognized 313 public schools and 40 non-public schools nationwide.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors non-public schools for helping students achieve at very high levels. St. Xavier High School qualified to apply for the Blue Ribbon recognition with test scores in the top 15% or above. In addition, St. Xavier has outstanding spiritual, academic and extracurricular programs with unique characteristics that set the school apart.

St. Xavier joins four other secondary schools and 17 elementary schools in the Archdiocese that have previously received this award one or more times. The four other secondary schools are Assumption High School, Mercy Academy, Sacred Heart Academy and Trinity High School, all in Louisville. The 17 elementary schools are St. Agnes, St. Albert, Ascension, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Gabriel, Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity, St. Margaret Mary, St. Mary Academy, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Patrick, St. Raphael and Sacred Heart Model School, all in Louisville, and St. Aloysius in Pewee Valley, Ky, St. Dominic in Springfield, Ky, St. James in Elizabethtown, Ky, and St. Joseph in Bardstown, Ky.

The U.S. Department of Education will recognize St. Xavier High School in Washington, DC on November 16-17, 2023.
