Reverend William J. Martin, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville, died on July 26, 2017, at the age of 72.  Father Martin, a native of Louisville, was baptized at the Saint Elizabeth Church in Louisville and attended the same parish for elementary school. He attended Saint Thomas Seminary for high school and part of college and completed his seminary education at Saint Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Father Martin served as Associate Pastor of the following parishes: Saint Helen (now Mary Queen of Peace) in Louisville, Saint James in Elizabethtown, and Holy Spirit in Louisville. He was pastor of Saint John the Apostle in Brandenburg, Saint Rita in Louisville, and Our Mother of Sorrows in Louisville before retiring in 2010. Father Martin also served on the Priests’ Council from 1978 to 1979, as the director of the Diaconate Office from 1981 to 1982, and on the Clergy Personnel Board from 1986 to 1992.

The concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 31, 11:00 a.m. at Saint Rita Church, 8709 Preston Highway, Louisville. Visitation will be held at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Avenue, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30 and at Our Lady of Nazareth Chapel at Nazareth Home (2000 Newburg Road) on Friday, July 28 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery following the funeral liturgy.
