Cemetery Manager

Opening: Cemetery Manager
Parish/School: St. Edward Parish – Jeffersontown
Description: This is a 20 hour part-time position that reports to the Business Manager of Saint Edward Church. The manager of Saint Edward Cemetery is responsible for making sure that all aspects of cemetery operations are performed accurately and efficiently, including but not limited to the sale of burial rights, the performance of interments, the maintenance of the cemetery grounds and keeping records. All training for this position is provided.

  • Guides and educates families on the purchase of burial rights or any other services depending on the needs of the family.
  • Assists families making burial arrangements.
  • Researches and processes burial assignments, and transfers, exchanges, and returns of burial rights, in consultation with the Business Manager, according to Kentucky state law and cemetery rules and regulations.
  • Completes all cemetery documentation at the time of sale, transfer, exchange, or return, including contracts, burial rights agreements, interment request (for at-need sales) and all other pertinent cemetery documents.
  • Reviews and approves all foundation requests prior to memorial installation and all requests to add inscriptions to existing memorials.
  • Maintains a good knowledge of memorial rules in order to provide memorial information to families and be able to answer questions regarding type, size, design, material, and any other type of restrictions that might apply to particular lots.
  • Collects required paperwork from funeral homes and families prior to all burials, which includes interment requests and provisional death certificates, reviews them and makes sure that all required signatures have been obtained and that the deceased has right of burial in the grave.
  • Updates all applicable files including lot sketches (paper and computerized); files provisional death certificate forms monthly with the proper county health department; prints out obituaries and attaches them to interment requests.
  • Flags graves for grave diggers to ensure proper placement of the deceased.
  • Coordinates and supervises removals and reinterments to ensure that proper forms and permits have been filed with the proper government agency and with Saint Edward Church.
  • Supervises the work of outside contractors.
  • Manage the cleanup of the grounds, garbage pick-up, cleanup of tree limbs, cleaning growth from fences, shoveling snow, etc.
  • Any other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Business Manager of Saint Edward Church.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Communicate effectively with Pastor, Business Manager, co-workers, families, and contractors.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and be able to follow directions from superiors.
  • Excellent skills of upkeeping both paper and digital records.
  • Must show respect and sensitivity toward families and visitors.
  • Ability to work outside in a physically demanding environment when needed to manage the cemetery properly.
  • Ability to use miscellaneous equipment and tools necessary to perform all duties described above.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment criminal background check.

Parish Bookkeeper/Accountant

Description: Holy Spirit & St. Leonard Catholic Churches are looking for a part-time Parish Bookkeeper/Accountant. The bookkeeper reports to the Business Manager and performs financial, accounting, and bookkeeping services for both the church and the school. The production and analysis of financial statements is essential along with the ordinary bookkeeping duties. The successful candidate will be or will become familiar with archdiocesan financial standards, the archdiocesan accounting system, and other systems related to the church and school. Assistance to and coordination with the pastor’s administrative assistant and the stewardship recorder will be essential. The job requires 20-25 hours a week and has only limited work-from-home potential. However, the hours can be quite flexible to accommodate personal needs.
Qualifications: The candidate should have 3 to 5 years’ experience in bookkeeping/accounting or a degree in accounting. Excellent organizational skills are a requirement as is a high proficiency with Excel. Experience in organizational budgeting would be highly beneficial. The job requires the ability to maintain confidentiality concerning parishioners, staff, and volunteers.

Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation (Part-Time, School Year)

Description: The Coordinator of Children’s Formation will work closely with children in our school, preschool and parish to deepen their faith. Full Time Custodian

Description: St. Paul Parish and School has an immediate opening for a Custodian. The custodian position is responsible for cleaning tasks, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, windows, offices, entry points, and stairwells. This work includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, disinfecting and emptying trash. Position will also be required to help with event setup/teardown and moving and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The position also requires some outdoor cleanup activities such as weeding and policing the grounds around campus. The custodian will also help with snow and ice removal.
During the summer schedule, the position will also be called upon to help with floor cleaning (stripping and waxing floors) and simple maintenance tasks such as painting.
Occasional overtime may be required for special events, including weekends and evenings.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Summer hours may differ from in-school hours.
Qualifications: High School diploma. Knowledge of tools and products used for cleaning and general maintenance. Prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to work on a ladder is also a requirement. People skills: must be able to work and interact well with people of all ages. Valid driver’s license required. All employees must pass a background check and attend Safe Environment training provided by the Archdiocese.
