Description: St. John Center helps homeless men address barriers to self-sufficiency and housing so that they may leave homelessness for good.  By providing daytime shelter, social services, supportive housing, and serving as a hub with partner agencies, St. John Center is where homeless men seek help, find hope, and move home. St. John Center is a high-volume shelter, serving an average of 165 men a day, and is open 7 days a week from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.

The Custodian is responsible for cleaning, basic maintenance and up-keep for the shelter building and grounds.  It requires a variety of tasks including:  daily duties; basic plumbing, occasional small carpentry; stocking and managing inventory; performing preventative maintenance requirements on equipment; organize donations and deliveries; outside grounds-keeping; work with contractors and vendors.  The Custodian will also supervise one part-time custodial staff member who covers weekends, holidays and vacation. This positions is full time,  Monday – Friday, typically 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Benefits include health insurance, vacation, simple IRA retirement plan, and holidays.

Qualifications: Must have a vehicle, license and insurance, and be able to drive for business purposes on a near-daily basis.  Must be able to stand most hours of the day and be in motion to clean, including stretching, twisting, bending and lifting.

Outreach Worker

Description: St. John Center helps homeless men address barriers to self-sufficiency and housing so that they may leave homelessness for good.  By providing daytime shelter, social services, supportive housing, and serving as a hub with partner agencies, St. John Center is where homeless men seek help, find hope, and move forward. St. John Center is a high-volume shelter, serving an average of 165 men a day, and is open 7 days a week from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.   In addition to the Day Center, St. John Center operates an outreach program with Louisville Metro Resilience and Community Services and Uniting Partners for Women. The purpose of this project is to offer increased street outreach services so that the needs of all clients who are homeless can be addressed.

The  outreach worker will assist with services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. In tandem with other members of the Outreach Team, the outreach worker will assist clients in accessing medical and mental health services, emergency and long term housing, substance abuse services, and social services.

Outreach Workers work within a harm reduction and person centered model. All duties are performed with a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team approach.

 The Outreach Team will support individuals and families experiencing homelessness and living in the community through such activities as: one on one contact with individuals on the streets and in emergency shelters; advocating on behalf of clients and/or supporting them to advocate for themselves;  collaboration and coordination of services with appropriate community agencies; liaising with hospitals and community agencies; consultation with mental health professionals (eg., nurses, social workers, family physicians, psychiatrists).

The outreach worker utilizes basic clinical skills to build rapport with clients and offers insights to the team regarding best practices; functions as a member of the shelter team, employs components of de-escalation on a daily basis; completes necessary record keeping in the Homeless Management System and other documentation as required by agency and the specific situation; addresses any issues, problems, or questions of policy or procedure that may arise, defuses tensions, communicate a shift summary to immediate supervisor and to other staff members as needed. This positions is full time,  Monday – Friday, typically 6:45 AM – 3:00 PM. Benefits include health insurance, vacation, simple IRA retirement plan, and holidays.

Qualifications: Preference given to an outreach worker with an Associate’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience in social work or closely related field. Must have reliable transportation and basic computer literacy.  Must be willing to transport clients.  Must to be able to move about outdoors, regardless of the weather, as well as inside the office to access file cabinets and use office machinery.

Part-Time Administrative Assistant

Parish/School: Community Catholic Center
Description: Community Catholic Center is a faith-based, non-profit organization that assists parents in providing a Catholic education for children living in Louisville’s Portland and West End neighborhoods.

20 hours/week

Responsibilities include oral, digital, and written communication with parents, donors, volunteers, and partner schools as well as financial bookkeeping.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be committed to the mission of CCC, have strong communication and financial management skills, and relevant experience, including facility with Quickbooks and the Microsoft Suite.
