As a parent, student, or adult of any age, what is your first thought about summertime? “Yay, no more schedules – time to have fun!” or “Uh-oh, what do I do without the school-year routine?” Whether you are looking forward to the unstructured freedom of summer or not, the question remains…what will you do all summer?
Summer can be a time to relax, enjoy a break from the responsibilities of school or work, and recharge the batteries. But it doesn’t mean take a break from all routines and normalcy. Growing up, my parents made sure certain priorities such as completing our daily chores, participating in summer reading, and weekly Mass attendance were consistently followed through each summer. I just wanted to spend all day every day at the pool! With the benefit of hindsight, it’s easy to now see why these routines were so important.
There are so many enjoyable ways to explore new things and places during the summer months. For some fun-filled summer activities, including how to get out there and keep living your faith, check out this short article, “10 Summer Ideas for a Catholic Family.” The campfire and the scavenger hunt are my favorites!
