(Louisville, KY) On Sunday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m., Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will join Fr. Terry Bradshaw, pastor, and the parishioners of Saint Bernadette Parish for the dedication of the new church. St. Bernadette Parish is located at 6516 Saint Bernadette Avenue, Prospect, Kentucky.

The new church is designed to seat 1,200, with an overflow capacity of 300 in the narthex. It is 31,000 square feet and meets the design guidelines of the Norton Commons community. The structure also includes three meeting rooms, a day chapel that seats 70, a kitchenette, a nursery, and a bell tower. The church features the first geothermal heating and air conditioning system among churches of the Archdiocese. Marble from the former St. Vincent de Paul Parish on Shelby Street was re-purposed for all church furnishings, along with the Stations of the Cross and two statues. The bell is from the former St. John’s Parish on Jackson Street. The architectural firm is Voelker, Blackburn, and Niehoff Architects, Inc., and the general contractor is Lichtefeld, Inc.

Open houses with a guided tour also will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 9:00 a.m. to noon; Sunday, April 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.; and Monday, April 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Saint Bernadette Parish serves 1,569 families and was founded in 2008 from the merger of the former Mother of Good Counsel Parish (located on Westport Road) and Transfiguration of Our Lord Parish in Goshen. A regional school (Saint Mary Academy) that shares property with Saint Bernadette Parish opened at this location in 2009, along with Saint Bernadette’s parish center. Since 2009, parishioners have been worshipping in the school gymnasium.

The parish campus is located off Highway 1694 at the Jefferson/Oldham County line. It is 1.2 miles north of Brownsboro Road (Kentucky 22).
