May 15 (Louisville, Ky.) – On Saturday, May 30, 2015, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. will ordain Deacons Peter Bucalo, Shayne Duvall, and Jason Harris to the diocesan priesthood for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville. The ordination will take place at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 South Fifth Street.
Deacon Peter Bucalo, 54, is a native of New York, N.Y. who grew up in Ann Arbor, Mich. and moved to Louisville in 1987. He is the son of the late Dr. Harry D. Bucalo, Jr. and the late Mary Bucalo. Deacon Bucalo received his bachelor’s degree in business from Michigan State University and master of divinity and master of Catholic philosophical thought degrees from Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. Prior to entering studies for the Archdiocese of Louisville, Deacon Bucalo spent 32 years working in radio. He will celebrate his Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, May 31, 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Bertrand Parish, 1104 South Sixth Street. Deacon Bucalo has been appointed associate pastor for Holy Spirit Parish in Louisville, Ky.
Deacon Shayne Randall Duvall, 32, is a native of Louisville and the son of Randy and Kay (Yunt) Duvall. Deacon Duvall earned a bachelor of science in justice administration from the University of Louisville and a master of divinity and master of theological studies degrees from Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. Deacon Duvall will celebrate his Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, May 31, 2 p.m. at St. Lawrence Parish, 1925 Lewiston Drive. He has been appointed as the associate pastor of St. James Parish in Elizabethtown, Ky., St. Ignatius Parish in White Mills, Ky., and St. Ambrose Parish in Cecilia, Ky.
Deacon James Jason Harris, 36, is a native of Grandview, Ind. and the son of Jim and Judith Harris. Deacon Harris received a bachelor’s degree in middle school education from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Ky., a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Louisville, a master of divinity from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and a baccalaureate in sacred theology from Catholic University. Prior to entering studies for the Archdiocese of Louisville, Deacon Harris taught middle school math for nine years and was a national board certified teacher in mathematics. His Mass of Thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, May 30, 5:30 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, 120 Main Street, Shelbyville, Ky. Deacon Harris has been appointed as the associate pastor of the Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Ky. and St. Michael Parish in Fairfield, Ky.
