(Louisville, KY) On Saturday, May 25, 2013, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D., will ordain Nicholas John Brown and Christopher Bradley Lubecke to the diocesan priesthood for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville. The ordination will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 South Fifth Street. 

Nicholas John Brown, 31, is a native of Louisville and is the son of Michael and Denise Brown. He received his bachelor of arts in Catholic Studies from Marian University in Indianapolis, IN, and his master of divinity degree from Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. Deacon Brown will celebrate his first Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, May 26, 11:00 a.m, at St. Barnabas Parish. Following ordination, he will serve as associate pastor at St. James Parish, Elizabethtown, St. Ignatius Parish, White Mills, and St. Ambrose Parish, Cecilia.

Christopher Bradley Lubecke, 47, is a native of Grafton, Wisconsin, and is the son of H. Barbara Lubecke and the late Leonard Lubecke of Mellen, Wisconsin. He earned his bachelor and master of arts in Theology, along with a baccalaureate in Sacred Theology, from St. Mary Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to entering seminary, Deacon Lubecke served in the U. S. Army from 1984 to 2005. He will celebrate his first Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Rita Parish on Saturday, May 25, 5:00 p.m., followed by a second Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Athanasius Parish on Sunday, May 26, 11:30 a.m. Following ordination, Deacon Lubecke has been appointed to serve as associate pastor of St. Albert Parish in Louisville.  

Deacons Brown and Lubecke will serve as diocesan priests in the Archdiocese of Louisville. A bishop ordains diocesan priests, also called secular priests, for a particular geographical area called a diocese or archdiocese. Diocesan priests usually serve in parishes, though they also serve in schools, hospitals, prisons, or diocesan offices, depending upon local needs.  Diocesan priests ordained for the Archdiocese of Louisville serve in the 24 counties of Central Kentucky that make up the Archdiocese.
