Abuse and trauma can lead to a distorted understanding of our faith, which can keep people trapped in cycles of pain and isolation.  Yet the truth of who Christ is leads people to hope, healing, and true freedom.  Through the ministry of faith formation, we have a unique opportunity to offer clarity to those in need, even when that need remains hidden.  In this course, we will explore Christ’s response to abuse and trauma, and how we can imitate Him in promoting healing, truth, and compassion in our faith communities.  By diving deep into the words and actions of Jesus, we will seek to deepen our own understanding of faith, and explore ways to communicate the truth of our faith with greater clarity and sensitivity.

This course deals with the spiritual aspect of understanding and responding to abuse and trauma through the ministry of faith formation.  It is intended to help raise awareness of this issue and promote a deeper understanding of Christ’s words and actions and our call to imitate them.  It in no way replaces safe environment or other required training and does not instruct listeners on how to recognize, report, or otherwise interact with the legal system regarding abuse.
