If I had to summarize the Archdiocesan Christian Leadership Institute (CLI), I would use the wise words of Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” After 38 years and going strong, this program continues to strengthen young people through faith all while learning about servant leadership which is at its core. High school youth from around the diocese come together for one week to build community as different leadership styles and concepts are presented to them. This is an opportunity for them to really learn about who they are as a leader and how they can best work with other leaders through many task and maintenance situations. During the week, the young people get to put what they have learned into action by working together to plan meals, prayers, and socials for their peers experiencing the week.

CLI 2018 was practically perfect in every way! A group of twenty-nine high school youth and a team of thirteen adults and young adults truly exemplified what is means to be servant leaders. Our main task was to create a community of faith, hope, and love all while bettering ourselves as individuals. We did just that.

Throughout the week, there were a lot of laughs, a lot of reflecting, and a lot of fun. The team did a fantastic job of leading these youth who took everything we gave them with grace and determination. What is great about this program is the results that come from it. These youth are now joined with the other CLI alumni who go out into their parishes, their schools, and their communities to make the world a better place. There is no doubt in my mind that these extraordinary twenty-nine individuals will do a lot of good for their communities with what they have learned from CLI 2018.
