(Louisville, Kentucky) Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre of the Archdiocese of Louisville will celebrate the Mass of Ordination to the Priesthood at the Cathedral of the Assumption on Saturday, May 31 at 11 a.m. All are invited to attend as the archbishop ordains Deacon Patrick Cole McDowell a priest for the archdiocese which is comprised of twenty-four counties in Central Kentucky.

Deacon McDowell, 31, is a native of Bardstown and the oldest of three children. McDowell earned an undergraduate degree in history, English literature, and religious studies from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green and a graduate degree in Early Christian Studies from The University of Notre Dame. After seven years in priestly formation, McDowell earned a baccalaureate in sacred theology from Theological College, the national diocesan seminary of The Catholic University of America.

After the ordination, McDowell will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown on Sunday, June 1, at 11 a.m. Archbishop Fabre has appointed McDowell to serve as parochial vicar (associate pastor) of St. James Catholic Church in Elizabethtown effective July 1.
