Chief Financial Officer

Description: The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall financial management of the Archdiocese of Louisville and the stewardship of fiscal resources in support of the mission and goals of the Archdiocese.  As an ecclesiastical office mandated by the universal law of the Church, the essential canonical qualifications and duties are established in the 1983 Code of Canon Law, canon 494.  The Chief Financial Officer is appointed by the Archbishop of Louisville for a five year term and is eligible for reappointment.  This position oversees all financial and related functions including budgeting, accounting, investments, risk management, real estate and facilities, and cemetery operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the investment of the Archdiocesan portfolio and deposit and loan funds.
  2. Analyze and make recommendations pertaining to all major financial decisions and questions facing the Archdiocese and its parishes and other affiliated entities.
  3. Serve as staff and work in collaboration with the Archdiocesan finance council and other consultative bodies establish by the Archbishop.
  4. Oversee the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget. Make recommendations as to available resources and financial limitations.
  5. Implement and evaluate financial policies and procedures of the Archdiocese to insure that financial goals and objectives are met in accordance with canon law, policies established by the Archbishop, and government regulations.
  6. Prepare monthly financial statements for Archdiocesan administrative offices, Archdiocesan management, finance council, and appropriate external organizations.
  7. Oversee all Archdiocesan accounting functions.
  8. Oversee the planning and completion of the Archdiocesan annual audit process in conjunction with an outside accounting firm.
  9. Provide direction and supervision for the finance department personnel and their work.
  10. Engage and interact with legal counsel on issues pertaining to Archdiocesan financial affairs.
  11. Assist in reviewing all contracts, trusts, deeds, affidavits, and other legal documents submitted to the Archbishop for execution.
  12. Maintain an Archdiocesan presence on various committees and boards.
  13. Perform other tasks as directed by the Archbishop.
  1. Requires knowledge and training in accounting/financial matters, general business management and personnel management especially with regard to non-profit institutions.
  2. Demonstrates administrative and supervisory skills and an ability to work in a senior management position.
  3. Exhibits excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
  4. Exhibits strategic planning and organizational skills.
  5. Has the ability to maintain confidential information.
  6. Has knowledge of the Catholic Church, including a familiarity with its structures, functions, and institutions.
  7. Is a practicing Catholic in good standing.

Description: The Archdiocese of Louisville seeks a creative and energetic individual to serve as Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving.  Responsibilities include actively identifying, cultivating and soliciting major and planned giving prospects.  The director collaborates with department, agency and parish staff to support the Archdiocese and its ministries.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of the theology of Catholic stewardship; experience with planned giving; ability to meet deadlines; proficiency with Microsoft Office – experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus.  Requires a bachelor’s degree, ability to maintain confidentiality and must be an active, practicing Catholic.

Cemetery Grounds Maintenance

Opening: Cemetery Grounds Maintenance

Description: The Catholic Cemeteries are currently seeking employees for Seasonal positions (April 1st through October 31st / 28 hours per week). The maintenance duties may include and are not limited to:

• Cut grass, trim around trees, walkways and memorial markers

• Work safely and comply with the company’s safety procedures

Qualifications: • Must be able to work as a team member, communicate effectively with foremen, fellow employees, contractor personnel and families

• Must show respect and sensitivity toward families

• Ability to work outside in a physically demanding environment

• Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment (lawn mowers/string trimmers,etc.)

• Must be 18 years old/ Must have a valid driver’s license

• Must pass drug test (background check is also required)
