Description: Position Summary: To produce accurate, objective, and timely stories for print and digital platforms as assigned by the editor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make and gather photos, video and information at news events and interviews to tell the Catholic story in Central Kentucky.
  • Write news announcements with precision and accuracy.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Monitor the wire service and recommend coverage of national, international news.
  • Generate story ideas by establishing relationships in the Catholic community that will help The Record offer a full range of coverage.
  • Assist with copy editing and proofreading.
  • Assist as needed with the digital product, including the website and co-managing social media with editorial staff.
  • Process photos, video and copy for web, when needed.
  • Share news and engage readers on social media.
Qualifications:
  • Reporting or news-writing experience.
  • Photography and videography experience, with video editing experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of the Adobe suite a plus.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as assigned.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on tight deadlines.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings.
  • Coverage includes the Spanish-speaking Catholic community; thus Spanish-language skills are preferred.
  • Professional experience using social media.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Full-Time Cemetery Grounds Maintenance

Opening: Full-Time Cemetery Grounds Maintenance
Agency: Catholic Cemeteries
Description: The Catholic Cemeteries are currently seeking employees for full-time cemetery grounds maintenance positions.  The maintenance duties may include and are not limited to:

  • String trimming around memorial markers, walkways, trees, and mowing grass.
  • Assist in funeral as needed. Set up tents and lowering devices.  Assist in the grave digging process by laying out drive boards, shoveling dirt, and clean up around the gravesite.
  • Clean up of the grounds.
  • Work safely and comply with the company’s safety procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Must show respect and sensitivity toward families and visitors.
  • Must be able to work as a team member, communicate effectively with foremen, fellow employees, contractor personnel and families.
  • Ability to work outside in a physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to use shovels, picks, jack hammers, hedge trimmers, loppers, hand saws, and other miscellaneous equipment and tools.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a drug test and a background check.
