Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, at the request of its parishioners, will close at the end of this year. Per the decree, the parish territory will be entrusted to the care of St. Martin de Porres Parish effective December 31, 2025.
After carefully assessing the status of parish operations, the leadership at Immaculate Heart of Mary concluded that the parish is no longer viable on its own due to an aging membership, excessive financial obligations related to property maintenance, aging buildings in need of repair, and a reduction in financial resources to maintain the parish. Considering these challenges, parish leaders from Immaculate Heart of Mary made the decision this past spring to approach the leaders at St. Martin de Porres to propose the idea of closing Immaculate Heart of Mary and joining the community of St. Martin de Porres.
In July, a letter was sent to Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre to formally petition to close Immaculate Heart of Mary and join St. Martin de Porres by the end of 2025. The petition was discussed by the Priest Council who unanimously recommended to proceed forward with the closure of Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary were consulted about the process which included open conversations regarding the possibility of remaining open if a viable plan could be developed. No such plan emerged, and all documentation regarding the process was sent to the archdiocese.
On November 24, 2025, Archbishop Fabre issued a decree to close Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish on December 31, 2025. To read the decree in its entirety, click on this link: https://therecordnewspaper.org/official-the-closing-of-christ-the-king-parish/.
Please continue keep the parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Martin de Porres in your prayers during this time of transition and renewal.
