The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry and its African Ministries will host its inaugural Kirundi Mass on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 12:00 p.m., St. Thomas More Catholic Church located at 6105 South Third Street, Louisville, KY 40214, with Fr. Expedito Muwonge as the presider. All are welcome! Kirundi, also known as Rundi, is a Bantu language spoken by some 9 million people in Burundi and adjacent parts of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as in Uganda. It is the official language of Burundi. Kirundi is mutually intelligible with Kinyarwanda, an official language of Rwanda, and the two form part of the wider dialect continuum known as Rwanda-Rundi. Many members of our Catholic community speak Kirundi. The Mass in Kirundi will continue to be offered once a month, the fourth Sunday of the month. For further details, please call the Office of Multicultural Ministry at (502)471-2146.
