Approximately 850 teachers from 38 Catholic elementary schools will gather on Friday, August 10, to celebrate the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. This event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon at St. Margaret Mary Parish, 7813 Shelbyville Road. The theme is “Catholic Schools: The Arms of God. ” Dr. Mary McDonald, former superintendent of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Memphis, will deliver the keynote address about the Catholic identity of schools and the impact of Catholic school teachers.
After the keynote address, Very Reverend Mark Spalding, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Louisville, will celebrate liturgy. Following the liturgy, representatives from the Catholic Education Foundation will present the Ulmer teacher awards.
The Archdiocese of Louisville has 47 Catholic elementary and secondary schools serving six counties of Central Kentucky.
