Reverend William S. Griner

Reverend William S. Griner, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville, died on February 26, 2020, at the age of 84.  Father Griner, a native of Louisville, was baptized at Saint Cecilia Church in Louisville and attended Saint Cecilia for elementary school, St. Mary’s for high school, and Saint Mary in Saint Mary, Kentucky for college. Father Griner completed his seminary education at Saint Meinrad School of Theology in Saint Meinrad, Indiana.

Father Griner served as Pastor at Epiphany Catholic Church, Saint Pius X and Saint Michael, Louisville; Administrator Pro-tempore at Saint Barnabas and Mother of Good Counsel; and, as Associate Pastor at Saint Margaret Mary, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, Cathedral of the Assumption, and Saint Barnabas. Father Griner served as Director of the following Archdiocesan offices: Vocations, Worship, and Continuing Education for Clergy, and was a member of the Liturgical Commission of the Archdiocese. He was also a Consultor for the Priests’ Council and taught at Saint Thomas Seminary and Trinity High School.

Father Griner was pre-deceased by his parents, Bonnie Lee and Catharine (Noone) Griner, and sister, June Giudice.

The concelebrated Funeral Mass will be celebrated this Monday, March 2, 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany Catholic Church. Visitation is Sunday, March 1, 2:00-8:00 p.m., at Highland’s Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road and Monday, 10:00-11:00 a.m., at the church.
