Reverend James E. Wafzig passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village Home. He was 83 years of age.
Father Wafzig was ordained March 26, 1955. He served at St. Martin of Tours from 1955-1958, St. Augustine Church 1958-1965, St. Joseph Infirmary 1965-1970, Our Lady of Perpetual Help 1970-1980, St. Margaret Mary 1980-1986, St. Aloysius Church 1986-1996 and retired to St. Athanasius in 1996. Fr. Jim also served as Chaplain at U of L Hospital and Catholic Charismatic Renewal and served as the Presenting Priest for Marriage Encounter.
His funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 5915 Outer Loop, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, and 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
