Our culture is overwhelmed with stories about faraway places, superheroes, super villains, and entertainment designed to help us escape from the real world.  As people of faith, we tend to dismiss this aspect of our culture as harmless, superficial fun or as a negative distraction that promotes values and ideas that are contrary to our Catholic view of the world.  On closer inspection, however, one finds that there are elements of biblical and religious truth that form the basis of many story lines and character development.  This class will attempt to bridge the sacred and the secular by exploring the religious insights and life lessons that are shared by the Catholic Tradition and the world of pop culture so that Catholic school teachers and catechists will obtain additional insights, tools, and resources to help teach the faith in a world full of comic book heroes.
