The Office of Multicultural Ministry will host its 36th Annual Citywide Kwanzaa Celebration on Thursday, December 28, 2017, 5:30 p.m. at the Catholic Enrichment Center, 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY. This is a community-wide family event filled with music, prayer, African drumming, food, a celebration of history and much more. Kwanzaa, which means “first fruits of the harvest” in the African language Kiswahili, is a seven-day harvest festival celebrated December 26 – January 1. This is a celebration of family, community and culture. It is not a religious holiday. Kwanzaa was founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, Professor of Africana Studies at California State University-Long Beach. At the heart and center of Kwanzaa are the Nguzo Saba, The Seven Principles, one for each day of the observance. For further details please call the Catholic Enrichment Center at (502)776-0262.
