Sister Gabrielle Branscome, SCN - August 8, 2007

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Gabrielle Branscome died Aug. 8 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was 91 and had been an SCN for 68 years.

Sister Branscome, a native of Grundy, Va., served in the apostolate of elementary and secondary education as both principal and teacher in Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio and Arkansas for 25 years. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she was principal of St. Barnabas School, Louisville, from 1962-65, and she worked in the Admitting Office at Nazareth College, Nazareth, Ky., from 1965-69.

She served as secretary to the superior general at SCN Center from 1972-80 and secretary to NLBI, Nazareth, from 1972-84. She also was secretary to the SCN Health System for several months in 1984, and from 1992-2002 she provided secretarial service at the Motherhouse in Nazareth.

Survivors include one sister, Catherine B. Cox; a niece, Marilyn Rooney; and a nephew, Charles B. Cox, all of Richmond, Va.; two nephews, Daniel and Gary Cox of Glen Allen, Va; another nephew, Philip Cox of Mechanicsville, Va.; and sisters in her congregation.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 11 at St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery.
