Sister Dorothy Osbourn, SCN - July 8, 2007

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Dorothy Osbourn, formerly Sister James Leon Osbourn, died July 8 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was 84 and had been a member of the SCNs for 64 years.

Sister Osbourn, a native of Springfield, Ky., served in the apostolate of elementary education in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and Massachusetts for 30 years.In the Archdiocese of Louisville she taught at Holy Family School in Louisville from 1951-60. She also served in religious education at Holy Redeemer Church, Greensburg, Ky., from 1977-78 and was pastoral associate at Flaget Hospital, Bardstown, from 1987-88.From 1988-91 Sister Osbourn served in volunteer ministry in Nazareth Campus Service, Nazareth, Ky., and from 1998-2002 in the apostolate of prayer at Nazareth. She became a permanent resident at Nazareth Home/Maria Hall in May 2002.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas Bertrand Osbourn, of Louisville; six sisters, Rose Thompson of Louisville, Regina Proffit of Cincinnati, Sister of Charity of Nazareth Marie Celine Osbourn of Red Bank, Tenn., Rita Nichols of Tampa, Fla., Agnes Spalding of New Port Richy, Fla., and Ann Carlsen of Selden, N.Y.; and sisters in the SCN congregation.

The Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, at St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, with burial in Nazareth Cemetery.
