Father Robert L. Huber, retired pastor, dies at 76
He served as pastor at St. Athanasius, St. Jerome and
St. Martha churches
Father Robert L. Huber, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville and a former pastor, died June 15 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. He was 76 and had been a priest for 51 years.
Father Huber served as pastor at three parishes in Louisville: St. Jerome, from 1973 to 1980; St. Martha, from 1980 to 1990; and St. Athanasius, from 1990 to 1999. He retired in January 2000 and was in residence at St. Athanasius until his death.
He was ordained to the priesthood May 26, 1956, at the Cathedral of the Assumption. Following ordination, he taught at Trinity High School for a year while in residence at St. Frances of Rome Church. He served at the former St. Thomas Seminary in Louisville from 1962 to 1970 as a teacher, assistant procurator, procurator and overseer of buildings and property.
Prior to becoming a pastor, he was associate pastor at two Louisville parishes: St. James from 1957 to 1962 and St. Pius X from 1970 to 1973.
He also had served on the archdiocesan school board, budget committee, stewardship committee and planning commission.
A Louisville native, he attended St. Elizabeth and Our Mother of Sorrows elementary schools, St. Xavier High School, St. Mary’s High School and College in Marion County, Ky., and St. Meinrad Seminary.
Survivors include a brother, Francis X. Huber (Rose); three sisters, Bernice Bell (Clarence), Betty Kelly Horsman (Bill) and Ursuline Sister Mary Ann Huber; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 19 at St. Athanasius. Internment was at Calvary Cemetery.
