Sister Joan Markley - April 24, 2007

Sister of Loretto Joan Markley died April 24 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon, Ky. She was 73 and was in the 50th year of religious life.

Sister Markley taught for 12 years at schools in Missouri and Texas and did parish work in Missouri. She retired in 1998 at St. Louis Center, Webster Groves, Mo. She moved to the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx, Ky., in 2006 and worked at St. Francis of Assisi Church, St. Francis, Ky.

Survivors include a sister, Louise Moore of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Leo Markley of Warrensburg, Mo., and Phillip Markley of Raymore, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews, friends, and members of the Loretto Community. A memorial Mass was celebrated May 23 at the Loretto Motherhouse.
