Obituary - Sister Philip Maria Fuhs, SCN

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Philip Maria Fuhs died March 9 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was 94 and had been an SCN for 75 years.

Sister Fuhs, a native of South Boston, Mass., served in health care as a nurse and an administrator in Kentucky, Washington, D.C., Ohio and Alabama from 1934-85. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she was the first administrator at Nazareth Home. She also served in nurse’s training and as a physical therapist at St. Joseph Infirmary and in volunteer service in the Sister Volunteer Program.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, among them Maureen and Sam Shemais of Hanover, Mass.; a cousin, Sister Agnes Ann Fuhs of South Boston, Mass.; and sisters in the SCN congregation.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 12 at St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, Ky. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery.
