Sister of Charity of Nazareth Catherine Griffin, formerly Sister Mary Emma Griffin, died Dec. 30 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was 85 and had been an SCN for 67 years.
Sister Griffin served in the apostolate of education as teacher, principal and secretary for 32 years in Kentucky and Massachusetts. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at Most Blessed Sacrament School from 1949-50; taught at St. Michael School from 1950-53 and served as principal there from 1953-54; taught at St. Augustine School from 1954-57and taught at St. John Vianney School from 1957-60. She served as secretary at Bethlehem High School, Bardstown, Ky., from 1983-86.
She also served also in community service as assistant coordinator at Russell Hall, Nazareth, Ky., from 1973-75; in communications in the SCN Mission Office from 1973-7, and in community service at the Nazareth Motherhouse from 1993-97.
Survivors include a niece, Catherine Edwards Looney, and a nephew, James Lyle Edwards, both of Somerset, Ky., and many friends and sisters in the SCN congregation.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 3 in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery.
