Sister Sara (Sally) Griffin, SCN - November 24

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Sara (Sally) Griffin, formerly Sister Mary Regis Griffin, died Nov. 24 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was 81 and had been an SCN for 63 years.

Sister Griffin, a native of Frankfort, Ky., ministered in the apostolate of health care in Kentucky, Arkansas, Washington, DC, and Tennessee. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she served at the former St. Joseph Infirmary and at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.

With the late Sister Dorothy Peterson and Sister Miriam Elizabeth Brown, Sister Griffin co-founded Nazareth Home Health to minister to the needs of those in the rural areas surrounding Nazareth, Ky. Sister Griffin also served as geriatric nurse practitioner at Nazareth Community Clinic at Nazareth, and from 1990-91 she served part-time in health care to the sisters at Russell Hall in Nazareth.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Betty Griffin; five nephews, John, Tom, Leo, Jimmy and Joseph (Buddy) Griffin, all of Frankfort; a niece, Ann Justice of Beaumont, Texas; two nephews, Jamie Gaines of Helotes, Texas, and John Denton Gaines of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and sisters in the SCN congregation.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 28 at St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery.
