Obituary - Sister Mary Ann Guthrie
Sr. Mary Ann Guthrie, OP - November 19
Dominican Sister Mary Ann Guthrie, 81, a native of Memphis, Tenn., died Nov. 19 at Sansbury Care Center on the grounds of the St. Catharine Motherhouse near Springfield, Ky. She had been a religious for 61 years.
Sister Guthrie taught at Our Lady of Peace School in Chicago, and was a nursing supervisor in Kentucky, Tennessee and Nebraska. She also served as administrator of St. John Hospital in Spalding, Neb.In Tennessee, Sister Guthrie served as a pediatric practitioner at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; was director of the Department of Human Resources for the Memphis Diocese; served as administrative assistant in the pastoral office for that diocese and also served in a variety of other positions there. She was executive director for the DePorres Delta Ministry in Batesville, Miss., and did missionary work in Peru.
Sister Guthrie is survived by two sisters, Arline Sogos and Mary Ellen Evers. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 21 at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel, and burial was in the St. Catharine Motherhouse Cemetery.
