Area Catholic colleges plan commencements
Bellarmine University, St. Catharine College to hold ceremonies on their campuses May 10

Bellarmine University in Louisville and St. Catharine College near Springfield, Ky., will hold commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 10.

Following are details on each school:

Bellarmine — The university will award 377 bachelor’s degrees and 96 master’s degrees at its 55th annual commencement beginning at noon May 10 in Knights Hall on the Newburg Road campus.

Curt Tofteland, founder and director of Shakespeare Behind Bars and producing director of the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, will be the commencement speaker. He also will be given an honorary degree.

Several awards will be presented, including the Archbishop’s Medal of Scholastic Excellence, given to the graduate having the highest cumulative grade-point average; and the Wilson W. Wyatt Fellowship, given to a student who has a high academic standing, is an outstanding student leader and has completed a competitive interview and nomination process.

Also, the In Veritatis Amore Award, named after Bellarmine’s motto, will be given to the best all-around male and female students.

St. Catharine — Associate or bachelor’s degrees will be awarded to 105 graduates at the 76th annual commencement starting at 11 a.m. May 10 in Lourdes Hall on the campus near Springfield.

A Mass for students, families and friends will be celebrated at 9 a.m. in St. Catharine Hall. Stan Curtis, founder of Kentucky Harvest and USA Harvest, will be the keynote speaker at the commencement.

“Golden Alumni” — those who graduated from St. Catharine College and/or St. Catharine Academy 50 or more years ago — have been invited to walk in the commencement procession.

St. Catharine’s baccalaureate service is planned at 7:30 p.m. May 9 in St. Catharine Hall.
