January 25, 2013	St. Francis of Assisi Students Receive Perfect Scores In Competition Several students representing St. Francis of Assisi School (1938 Alfresco Place) recently received perfect scores in the first of three meets for this year’s WordMasters Challenge™—a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 students annually.
January 23, 2013	Archdiocese of Louisville Celebrates National Catholic School Week Nearly 20,000 students and 1,500 faculty and staff at 47 Catholic elementary and secondary schools will celebrate National Catholic Schools Week from January 27-February 2, 2013. The theme for this year’s Catholic Schools Week is “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.”
November 8, 2012	Catholic High School Placement Test – December 8, 2012 Students in 8th grade who wish to attend a Catholic high school next year are required to take the Catholic high school placement test scheduled on Saturday, December 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
November 5, 2012	St. Leonard School Students Celebrate Veterans St. Leonard School (440 Zorn Avenue) will hold a special event in honor of veterans for Veteran’s Day, November 11. At this time, Marybeth Stewart from the Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services and some veterans will visit the school on Friday to speak to all grades about veterans and to receive the letters to veterans written by students.
November 1, 2012	Archdiocese of Louisville Honors 3,710 Years of Teaching Service On Thursday, November 8, the Archdiocese of Louisville will honor 226 Catholic school teachers who have achieved a total of 3,710 years of teaching experience. This luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Olmsted, 3701 Frankfort Avenue.
October 12, 2012	ACCOMMODATE 2012 The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Lifelong Formation and Education is sponsoring the annual “ACCOMMODATE 2012” at Mercy Academy (5801 Fegenbush Lane, Louisville) on Thursday, November 8, 2012. The event will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Mercy’s gymnasium.

June 14, 2012	Catholic Secondary School Class of 2012 Receive Record Number of Scholarships The 1,468 seniors who graduated from the 9 Catholic secondary schools in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville received a record $114.1 million in scholarships to colleges, universities, vocational, or business schools.
May 22, 2012	St. Francis of Assisi Students Win Highest Honors in national language arts competition Five teams of students representing St. Francis of Assisi School recently won highest honors in the WordMasters Challenge – a national language arts competition entered by over 220,000 students annually, which consists of three separate meets held at intervals during the school year.
April 30, 2012	Catholic School Media Tipsheet 4-30-12 St. Mary Academy (11311 St. Mary Lane, Prospect, Ky.) 4th grade students are being honored for submitting an outstanding portfolio in Kentucky’s Youth Awards for Energy Achievement Program. On Friday, May 11, 30 archers from St. Mary Academy (11311 St. Mary Lane, Prospect, Ky.) will compete in the National Archery Tournament at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.

March 12, 2012	Catholic School Media Tipsheet 3-12-12 Our Lady of Lourdes (510 Breckenridge Lane) 8th graders will welcome a visiting artist for four workshop sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays (March 21, 23, 28, and 30) from 8:00 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. Each day from 7:10 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. for the rest of the school year, Ascension School’s (4600 Lynbrook Drive) custodian, Mr. Jim Grider, will sell special breakfast items to families and students in order to raise funds for tornado victims.

January 5, 2012	Mrs. Phyllis Dries of St. Patrick Catholic School Receives National Catholic Education Association’s Distinguished Teacher Award St. Patrick Catholic School proudly announces that Mrs. Phyllis Dries, third grade teacher, is the recipient of the National Catholic Education Association’s (NCEA) Distinguished Teacher Award for 2012. Mrs. Dries will attend the NCEA national conference in April, where she will be recognized before thousands of Catholic school educators.
December 7, 2011	Saint Leonard Students Celebrate Christmas Around the World Saint Leonard School (440 Zorn Avenue) 1st grade students are completing a “Christmas Around the World” unit. Students created passports and airline tickets in order to visit 10 countries to learn the customs and traditions of each location. Countries being studied include the United States, Sweden, England, Poland, Germany, Holland, Italy, France, Ireland, and Mexico.

October 26, 2011	National CEO of Humane Society Speaks at St. Raphael School St. Raphael School (2131 Lancashire Avenue) will welcome Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, to speak to students in grades 5-8. He will speak at the school on Friday, November 4, at 9:15 a.m.

October 10, 2011	Archdiocese of Louisville Announces New Executive Director of Catholic School Athletic Association Reverend Thomas E. Gentile, Chair of the Catholic School Athletic Association (CSAA), announced today the appointment of Richard J. Arnold as the new Executive Director of the CSAA. Mr. Arnold succeeds Mr. James Frame, who has served as Executive Director since 1983.

May 16, 2011	Ascension School Holds Spring Enrichment Classes Ascension School will hold its third annual Ascension Classes for Enrichment (ACE) event on Monday and Tuesday, May 23-24, from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. (with a lunch break from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.) For these classes, parish members, parents, business people and representatives from state and local service agencies will join Ascension’s faculty to provide a variety of enrichment opportunities for the students.

April 21, 2011	Saint Nicholas Students Win SPAVA Awards Seventeen St. Nicholas Academy students will be honored on Tuesday, April 26 by the Society for the Prevention of Aggressiveness and Violence Among Adolescents (SPAVA). These students were chosen on the basis of essays that they composed featuring famous role models in history who model SPAVA principles.
