Questions and Answers for Parents

Question: What tuition assistance is available to parents?

There are now four sources of financial support beyond what a family can provide:

  • A discount for those whose household income is below 200% of the 2024 federal poverty guidelines. This discount is open to all students.
  • Tuition assistance provided by the Catholic Education Foundation. This assistance is open to all students.
  • Archdiocesan Voucher Fund, open to registered parishioners of any Catholic parish.
  • Individual parishes may provide tuition assistance to parishioners.

Question: What do parents need to know, especially those new to the process:

The process of obtaining financial support starts at the school. Thus, during late fall and early winter, parents who are new to the system need to focus on identifying and applying to a Catholic elementary school. During the process of registration, please request information about the FACTS Management application for tuition assistance, which must be filled out online here. The FACTS form will be available online on October 15 of each year and is due on November 30 of each year. It must be completed in order to receive any form of tuition assistance. Go to www.ceflou.org to apply.

Parents need only to fill out one form for all children, even if some children are attending different Catholic schools (for example, one child in elementary and one in high school).  Even though high schools may have a later due date for applications, parents with children in both elementary and high school should submit the tuition assistance application form by the November 30 due date to ensure that the determination of need for your family is complete.

Parents will be notified about awards the first week of March each year.

Question: How is the federal poverty level defined?

Household income at 200% of the 2024 federal poverty guidelines:

Family of 2: $40,880
Family of 3: $51,640
Family of 4: $62,400
Family of 5: $73,160
Family of 6: $83,920
Family of 7: $94,680
Family of 8: $105,440

For families/households with more than 8 persons, add $5,380 for each additional person.

Question: What information is needed to fill out the FACTS form?

For each school year, parents need to have the year before last’s tax information. For example, for the 2024-2025 school year, parents should submit 2022 tax information.

  • Federal tax return
  • W-2’s and other non-taxable documentation
  • Small Processing Fee

Instructions and other information pertaining to the process are available by calling FACTS at (866) 441-4637.

Question: Is there a fee for the FACTS form?

There is a small processing fee, but no family should be deterred from applying to FACTS due to the processing fee. If this is a problem for your family, please contact your school.

Question: I am not sure if I qualify for tuition assistance?

The best advice if you are not sure is to apply for tuition assistance. To ensure tuition assistance applicants are afforded objective, independent consideration, FACTS is used to process applications. FACTS is a nationally recognized organization with personnel and technological expertise specifically suited for screening the financial needs of student families. All awards are need-based.

Question: How do parents find out more about Catholic schools?

Go here for a Catholic school selection guide and don’t hesitate to contact schools for a tour or more information. Schools will hold special opportunities for parent visits during Discover Catholic Schools Week in November of each year and during Celebrate Catholic Schools Week during the last week of January-February of each year. Schools will be happy to schedule individual tours at your convenience.
