MARY HORECNY TO RECEIVE IRENE CASEY CATHOLIC INCLUSION AWARD

(Louisville, Kentucky) The Irene Casey Catholic Inclusion Award will be presented to Mary Horecny (hor rec’ nee), learning consultant at St. Francis Elementary School, 1938 Alfresco Place. Mrs. Horecny will be recognized at St. Francis School on Wednesday, September 19 at 10 a.m.

Horecny has been teaching for 16 years and has spent 11 years at St. Francis. She holds an undergraduate degree in elementary education and special education from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, and a master of arts in teaching degree from Bellarmine University in Louisville. Mrs. Horecny is noted for her communication skills, her use of technology in the classroom, and her close personal attention to students and their families. She also was a recipient of the 2003 Cardinal Rehab Center Lily Award, which is given annually to an educator by Cardinal Hill and Easter Seals.

Mary Horecny and her husband have two daughters. They are members of St. Martha Parish.

Established in 1999, the Irene Casey Catholic Inclusion Award is named after an elementary school teacher who was dedicated to meeting the diverse learning needs of students in Catholic education. This award is presented annually by the Archdiocese of Louisville to an educator, counselor or administrator who exemplifies excellence in special education, especially in the area of inclusion. Inclusion is the concept of addressing the learning differences of students with special needs in the regular classroom.
