800 Catholic Elementary Teachers Gather for Opening School Rally

Approximately 800 elementary teachers from Catholic schools will gather on Friday, August 10 to celebrate the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year. This event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Churchill Downs (4th floor) and will include prayer, a motivational speaker and a presentation from Rebecca Jackson of the WHAS Crusade for Children. An agenda follows.

Educators will hear a talk from keynote speaker Rev. Ronald J. Nuzzi, Ph.D., director of the ACE Leadership Program at the University of Notre Dame. Father Nuzzi will talk about the opportunities and challenges facing Catholic schools and educators’ roles in addressing these realities.

At the close of the program, Rebecca Jackson will present the Crusade’s 2007-2008 grant for special education materials to Archbishop Thomas C. Kelly. The $45,000 grant will be used for FastForWord software for elementary and secondary schools, classroom sound field systems and Crusade for Children library materials.

There are more than 900 K-8 teachers in 39 Catholic elementary schools serving seven counties of Central Kentucky.
