St. Aloysius, Pewee Valley, Teacher Wins MAC Grant

(Louisville, Kentucky) Saint Aloysius in Pewee Valley (122 Mount Mercy Drive) is proud to announce that Cara Westman, the middle school social studies teacher, won a $500 MAC (Make Activities Count) grant from the McDonald Foundation on Friday, December 4, 2009.

Mrs. Westman’s grant will pay for the school to have two gigantic maps, one of the United States and one of the world, painted on the playground. These maps will be used by students in grades K-8 and will be integrated into the curriculum in fun and interactive ways. Examples include having a global food party with each dish being placed on the country of origin; inviting students to follow the Oregon Trail and cross rivers and mountains; or challenging students to become explorers and experience the trade routes to the New World.
