Children’s Author J. Patrick Lewis to Visit St. Agnes School


(Louisville, Kentucky) On Wednesday, February 20, 2008, beginning at 8:15 a.m., renowned children’s poet J. Patrick Lewis will visit St. Agnes School (1800 Newburg Road). Mr. Lewis is the author of 45 children’s poetry books with subjects ranging from math to nature, science to history, and everything in between. He has been awarded the ALA Notable Book Award, the Golden Kite Award, and the Ohioana and Kentucky Bluegrass Awards.

On February 20, Mr. Lewis will conduct a workshop about writing and the creative process with each grade as follows:

 

8:15 a.m. Kindergarten through second grade
9:15 a.m. Fifth and sixth grades
10:15 a.m. Seventh and eighth grades
1:30 p.m. Third and fourth grades


Mr. Lewis also will visit with the St. Agnes Parent Teacher Organization on Tuesday, February 19, at 6:30 p.m. At that time, the fifth grade classes will “perform” some of Mr. Lewis’ poems for parents.

St. Agnes School is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for excellence as a two-time Blue Ribbon award winner. It is the oldest elementary school still operating in Louisville and serves 428 students in grades K-8.
