Education Rally in Frankfort to Introduce GIFT Program
(Frankfort, Kentucky) The Kentucky League for Educational Alternatives will hold an education rally on Wednesday, February 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Capitol Rotunda. The purpose of the rally is to support education in the state and to introduce the GIFT (Growing Innovations for Tomorrow) program that will be introduced in this legislative session.
Speakers include Most Reverend Ronald W. Gainer, Bishop of Lexington; representatives from other non-public schools; and businessmen from Louisville and Lexington. All legislators, Governor Steve Beshear, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo and Education Commissioner Jon Draud have been invited.
GIFT is a proposed educational improvement tax credit that provides companies with a 50% tax credit when they make a donation to education. The program calls for a 50% tax credit up to a maximum donation of $200,000. GIFT will benefit both public and non-public schools, with 60% of the funds going toward public schools and 40% going toward non-public schools. For more information, see www.kytaxcredit.com.
