Archdiocese of Louisville Celebrates National Catholic Schools Week

January 21, 2015 (Louisville, Ky.) More than 19,000 students and 1,500 faculty and staff at 46 Catholic elementary and secondary schools will celebrate National Catholic Schools Week from January 25-31, 2015. The theme for this year’s Catholic Schools Week is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service.”

Catholic School Spring Break Week for 2014-2015 School Year Changed

May 14, 2014 (Louisville, Ky.) Based upon the change in the Spring Break dates on the part of Jefferson County Public Schools, Catholic school leaders overwhelmingly recommended that Catholic schools in Jefferson County adjust the 2015 Spring Break dates to be consistent with other school systems.

Based on that input, Leisa Schulz, Superintendent of Schools, has changed the 2015 Spring Break dates to April 6-10, 2015 for Jefferson County Catholic schools.

Catholic Charities Holds Rice Bowl Lunch

February 13, 2014 (Louisville, Ky.) On Wednesday, February 19, beginning at 10:30 a.m., Catholic Charities of Louisville will hold an event for Catholic school students to learn about Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl program.  This will be held at Holy Cross High School (5144 Dixie Highway) and will feature an interactive display, lunch, and remarks from Thomas Awiapo from Ghana, an individual who benefitted from the funds raised by this program for Catholic Relief Services.  An agenda is below.

Calendar Advisory – Catholic High School Placement Test

November 18, 2013  Students in grade 8 who wish to attend a Catholic high school next year are required to take the Catholic high school placement test scheduled on Saturday, December 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

Students take the test at the Catholic high school they plan to attend. They must bring a $10 fee and two #2 pencils.  Information about the location of the high schools can be found at www.archlou.org/schools.

Lessons in Stewardship: Saint Mary Academy

November 14, 2013 (Louisville, Ky.)  Stewardship Education/Food Pantry: From Monday, November 11 through Thursday, November 21, Saint Mary Academy (11311 St. Mary Lane, Prospect, Ky.) third-graders will be collecting food for the Eastern Area Ministries and the Immaculate Conception Church’s (LaGrange, Ky.) food pantry.  Students will collect canned goods and non-perishable food in conjunction with their stewardship studies about those who are hungry.

Archdiocese of Louisville Honors 3,990 Years of Teaching Service

October 31, 2013 (Louisville, KY) On Wednesday, November 6, the Archdiocese of Louisville will honor 235 Catholic school teachers who have achieved a total of 3,990 years of teaching experience. This luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Olmsted, 3701 Frankfort Avenue.

St. Leonard School Run/Walk Program Kick-Off

October 8, 2013 (Louisville, KY) On Thursday, October 10, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., St. Leonard School (440 Zorn Avenue), will kick off a new program for St. Leonard students called Rise to Run & Wake to Walk (R2R & W2W).  This kick-off will consist of a “Buddy Walk” in the Riedlonn neighborhood behind the school.
