To assist the Archbishop in the administration and supervision of the temporalities of the local church and its juridic persons.

To improve communications and accountability to the community by publication of audited financial statements of the Archdiocese of Louisville.

To provide accounting services to archdiocesan agencies including payroll and financial reporting.

To provide guidance, technical assistance, consultation and professional development opportunities to pastors and staffs (business managers and bookkeepers) responsible for parish and school financial operations.

Manages the Archdiocese of Louisville Deposit and Loan Fund as well as the Parish, School and Cemetery endowment funds.

Performs compliance audits for parishes, schools and other Catholic organizations.

Manages and monitors all liability, property and worker's compensation insurance for the archdiocese and all archdiocesan parishes and schools.

The Archdiocese of Louisville Food Service Office has approximately 19,000 students in 45 sites throughout Jefferson, Bullitt, Oldham, Hardin, Nelson, Marion, Washington and Larue Counties. Approximately 72% of the students participate in the National School Lunch Program, 36% participate in the National Breakfast Program and 14% participate in the Special Milk Program.

The purpose of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) as declared by Congress in the National School Lunch Act is to safeguard the health and well being of the nation's children. Since 1946, President Harry Truman established the NSLP program to make it possible for schools to serve nutritious lunches to students each school day. States receive federal reimbursement and other assistance in establishing, maintaining and operating the programs.

The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the United States Department of Agriculture administers the NSLP at the federal level. In Kentucky, the Department of Education and the Department of Food Distribution administer foods to the programs, which are available in archdiocesan schools through an annual agreement with the Food Service Office of the Chancery Finance Department.

To participate in the NSLP, all schools and institutions must agree to:

• Operate food service for all students without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or handicap.
• Provide free and reduced-price lunches to students unable to pay the full price, based on income eligibility criteria. Such students must not be identified nor discriminated against in any manner.
• Serve lunches that meet the nutritional standards established by the Secretary of Agriculture.
• Operate the food service on a nonprofit basis.

To qualify for reimbursement, schools must serve lunches that meet federal guidelines. The meal pattern requirement, specified by the Archdiocese of Louisville Food Service Office, is the Enhanced Food Pattern. The Enhanced Food Pattern is designed to provide, over a period of time, approximately one-third of a student's Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) for key nutrients. The lunch must be planned to offer each student five items: a specific amount of meat or meat alternate, two or more vegetables and/or fruits, whole-grain or enriched bread or bread alternate, and fluid milk as beverage. Students must be offered all five food items. However, under the Offer versus Serve option, a student may decline up to two food items. The price of lunch is not reduced when items are declined. In September 2005, the Central Food Service Office implemented a centralized menu that the entire diocese will follow beginning in the 2005/2006 school year. The committee selected foods that are considered high-participation foods as well as foods furnished by the Department of Agriculture.

Schools are required to promote activities involving students and parents in such areas as menu planning, forming taste test panels, enhancing the eating environment, promoting the program and organizing joint student-community activities supporting the program. Schools are encouraged to teach students about good nutrition practices and to involve the school faculty and the general community in activities to enhance the program.
