Programs and Services
Much of the work of the Chancery is in relationship with the Holy See, other dioceses, our parishes and institutions, as well as various offices, commissions and congregations. The Chancery functions as a liaison for referrals and reports.
In the everyday dealings with the public, The Chancery is responsible for scheduling appointments, Confirmations, archival records and sacramental record-keeping for parishes that have closed. The Chancery also deals with marriage dispensations and requests for marriages outside the parish setting. The ultimate goal is to assist the Archbishop in the administration of the Archdiocese.
The Chancery also serves as the office of the Archbishop. Archbishop Kurtz serves as a pastoral leader of the local church as well as a civic leader. He is responsible for setting direction and establishing priorities for the diocese. He provides support and direction for ordained clergy and all other pastoral leaders. In addition, he has numerous national responsibilities. All of these responsibilities require a tremendous amount of communication and coordination.
