Counselor addresses concerns of parents

Martine Siegel, the victim assistance coordinator for the Archdiocese of Louisville, has fielded dozens of calls in the last week from St. Margaret Mary Church families whose pastor, Father Stephen Pohl, was arrested last week.

The priest is charged with accessing pornographic images of children online and investigators say he possessed inappropriate photos of St. Margaret Mary School students.

STATEMENT

Last evening, Fr. Mark Spalding and Dr. Brian Reynolds met with school parents of St. Margaret Mary Parish School. This meeting was held to keep parents informed and to answer questions.

The following information was shared at this meeting:

  • Dr. Reynolds reviewed the steps that were taken since the Archdiocese first learned of this situation on Wednesday, August 12.

(Louisville, Ky.) – In September of 2014 during a regular audit at Holy Name Parish (2914 South Third Street, auditors of the Archdiocese discovered a possible theft at the parish by employee Lisa Roth.  Holy Name and its clustered parish, St. Joseph (1406 East Washington Street), had been served by business manager Lisa Roth, who resigned her position at those parishes as the audit progressed. Pastor On Leave of Absence

August 15, 2015 (Louisville, Ky.) – At the Saturday and Sunday Masses on August 15-16, the parishioners of St. Margaret Mary Parish (7813 Shelbyville Road) are being informed that their pastor, Father Stephen A. Pohl, has been placed on an administrative leave of absence.  Parishioners also are being notified in a letter from Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz.
