The Silent Saint

Last week we paused during the penitential days of Lent to celebrate some March feast days. Of course, who does not know of St. Patrick?  Parades and Irish heritage abound.  In Louisville those members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians have always been well prepared to display not only their heritage but a Catholic faith that sustains them.  I give them three cheers!

Lenten Reading and Fasting

Who likes to fast?  When I was growing up, fasting and abstinence were part of our family routine as Catholics. We fasted for several hours before going to Mass all the time, and of course, we fasted and abstained during Lent. I can still remember the countdown until Easter when we finally could eat candy again and the endless arguments about whether Sunday was a day off.

Archdiocese of Louisville Welcomes 448 New Members

March 4, 2014 (Louisville, Ky.) Four hundred forty-eight individuals who are preparing to enter the Roman Catholic Church will be recognized during the “Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion” ceremonies at two locations.  The first will be on Saturday, March 8, 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Parish (3705 Stone Lakes Drive).   The second will be on Sunday, March 9, 2:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption (433 South Fifth Street).
